Franzia Kafka asked:
Previously I’d written all my direct (debit) and future (credit card) expenses in one single bank register, then realized doing this totally flocks up my ability to see how much I actually have in my checking account and when (because I would write credit expenses as though I had already paid them, in the same way as debit, and would occasionally end up in the hole when I was, say, waiting on a paycheck). So I’m considering using separate registers for each card – but this makes it more difficult for me to keep my credit spending down. What works best for you? Combined or separate?

I am going to a small private couture school abroad and US financial aid does not work with that school. My tuition is being paid for by the school but I still need financial aid to afford the numerous supplies that I am going to need as well as daily living expenses. Are there any student loans for people in my position?

My son was hospitalized in December 2008. We paid his medical bills in 2009. He was a full time student in 2008 and we can therefore claim him as a dependent. In 2009 he is no longer a student and we will not be able to claim him. Can we claim the expenses in 2008 since that’s when they were incurred?

I am looking at spending nearly $7,500 on medical and dental expenses. I have tried applying for Medi-Cal, and I do not qualify. I cannot get CMSP because I am not 21 yet. I live with my dad and I am 20 years old with low income and no assets except my truck. Are there any other ways of getting cash aid and medical/dental financial assistance?

I had a wisdom tooth pulled last your that I did pay out of pocket no insurance cost about $1200, Also paid to take a dental assistant program which cost $1200. Would I be able to claim these expenses when i file? I already claim my son and last year I got back about 4k. So would it help me get back a little more if I added on the 1200 medical expense and 1200 school expense?

I was in an auto accident and I have medical insurance. My medical insurance covered my medical expenses; however, I wanted to know if the auto insurance is still liable for those expenses? It seems as if my having medical insurance should benefit me and not the liable party’s auto insurance company. If I did not have medical insurance the auto insurance company would still have to pay for those expenses. So shouldn’t they still have to pay for those expenses and I get what ever is left that my medical insurance company did not pay? Are there any laws statures that back this up in Georgia? I am trying to settle this claim without getting an attorney and I need all the help I can get. Any advice would be helpful. I am in the process of writing a demand letter. Thanks for all the help.

I have gone to auditions and meetings that have cost about $5000. Since I am just beginning, I have had no income to offset these expenses. Since I am in the business of acting, can I claim a business loss on my tax return? Or do those expenses not count for anything as far as taxes go?
I do currenly have another job which provides income. I just have not had any acting income to date.
