In his former defence force job he had been allowed to use the company card for personal expenses as long as it was repaid and he had assumed it was the same at Sydney Ferries, he said.>>

For example if some ******** ICAC person was coming after you, wouldn’t you perhaps run up a lot of “personal” expenses seeking legal advice ?
Wouldn’t these be “business” expenses also ?

My family needs to move for health reasons. My daughter has asthma and the area we live in has an ozone problem. My company doesn’t want me to leave and has offered to do something to cover my costs to have a place here during the week and fly home for the weekends. Since I am salaried and typically work a lot of hours during the week, the first option proposed is to pay overtime for the hours that I normally work anyway. This is fine with me but I do not know the tax implications of such a situation. Would I be better off asking for a stipend or having the company pay for everything or does it matter one way or the other?
Thanks

When filing you tax return, do business expenses just help to relieve federal tax responsbility, or is state tax responsbility included as well? Thanks!

As an website host, under what section is the best place to claim our web hosting costs for the business. For instance, servers, bandwidth, etc. What is the best way to describe these expenses?

Do company internet, phone, and fax expenses get classified under Telephone Fee’s and charges – or should they be broken out?
To clarify, these expenses are about 1/4th of our total revenue.

About $8K of $36K.

$7954 Computer Server and Internet Bandwidth
$1623 Phone, Fax, and Internet Services

It seems important for us to classify these right.

I had two separate sub contractors work on projects for me. One was for $300 and the other person helped out for $500.

According to people I’ve spoken to, they said i wasn’t required to send out 1099s since the amounts were under $600 separately, but also for myself, i wasn’t sure if i could write off these as business expenses or not.

I have business expenses I want to deduct on my taxes, such as start-up expenses and travel costs necessary for securing suppliers and customers.

If I started my business on December 2008, then how far back can I deduct my business expenses? 2007? 2006? earlier?
