I’ve made less this year than last in my real estate business because the market is really bad right now. I have much more in business expenses though. I don’t want to be audited, just wondering if anyone out there with experience knows what a reasonable amount in expenses for just having one sell.

According to what I’ve read; if one (single person) has an income from a job AND a home-based or small business (with IRS assigned EIN) – that person may include additional exemptions on their employment W4 to reduce tax withheld from their employment pay check. How is the number of exemptions allowed determined? I can’t find anything about this on the IRS site.

I am at the early stage of developing a business plan and trying to complete my cash flow projections. What are the rates to apply on top of my payroll for Social Security (FICA), Medicare, Unemployement Tax, Work Comp insurance? Please feel free to mention any item I forgot. My whole monthly payroll will be around $5000. At this point I am only looking for a rough estimate, although I don’t want to under-estimate. Thanks in advance for your help.
