business expenses
Maypearl asked:

My homework is to find at least three companies or business people who are experienced in catering business and interview them.
The question is what are some of the types of expenses that you would have for starting a catering business and how much does each type of expenses cost?

Also, I am suppose to get the business owner’s names or the names of businesses. So if want, you could put that down!

Thanks!!

Kurrious asked:

And if there is no limit, can a business deduct the salary of their employees from their marketing department as a marketing expense?
Rather, can they deduct the salaries of people independently contracted to market for them who are not technically employees?
More specifically, if a business hires a marketing company to market for them, is the price they pay that marketing company tax deductible?

Just out of curiousity, if you have your own business — can your business pay for your child’s daycare? — if so, can you itemize those expenses on your taxes for your business? — and if you can do that, on your personal tax return, can you take advantage of the child tax credits of $3000 per kid?

Believer asked:

How do I get reimbursed for items purchased out of pocket for new business? for example, I have purchased office supplies and have charged it to a credit card or the bank check card. I need to put that money back in the bank and pay credit card. How do I do it? do I write check to myself? (yes, it’s a legal business with tx ID number and biz license). My mind is totally blank. Working on taxes :-(
Any help with truly be appreciated.

I am in the beginning stages of starting my business (sewing classes) and will be making purchases for equipment that will total about $2000.00.. (sewing machines, notions, tables, chairs, fabric, etc). These are things that I will need to actually have the classes and cannot be put off. When filling taxes can I write these off completely or will I have depreciate? Thanks in advance for answering

Lisa asked:

The money comes out of my check but rarely gets contributed on time. I recently looked online at my account and saw a contribution on jan 19th. Later I found out that the contribution was for the month of november of 06. By law the money is supposed to be in the 401k account 15 business days past the month. Does the employer have access to using employee 401k contributions for business expenses? My coworker was told by the plan administrator that “the money wasn’t there” and “they were doing the best they can” to send the contributions. I am only assuming that this is what had happened (to pay expenses) What are the legal rights in this? Whats the point of having money taken out every week when it doesnt even go in when its supposed to. Would I still get charged the monthly fee if I stop contributing?

. . . if those consumables help you perform your job duties, you keep them at your workplace, you use them exclusively at your workplace, your employer doesn’t provide them to anyone, but you can provide photographic proof showing how they help both you and the employer?
Specifically speaking, specialized refillable markers, of various colors, that color-code product packaging in inventory.

We have been selling on the Internet for about 5 years, mainly our own brand. We have reached a plateau at 750K/year. Although all expenses are covered including salaries, there is very little net profit left over at the end of the year. What would be considered a resonable net profit percentage for most companies?
Also, should a company show net profit to be deemed successful?
